Experimental Study of Atmospherically and Infrared-Dried Industrial Topcoats

In this paper, five different solvent-borne industrial topcoats were dried with infrared (IR) radiation and under atmospheric conditions. A comparison of physical, mechanical, chemical, electrochemical properties differently was made. The results differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), adhesion a topcoat to the metal substrate (determined by pull-off test) indicate higher degree crosslinking examined topcoats, which improves coating’s protective properties. Scratch hardness determined pencil test. Impact resistance falling-weight Changes in shade coating visual inspection using gloss meter. measurements open circuit potential (OCP) impedance spectroscopy (EIS) conducted. thermal stability tested thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). show overall better IR-dried topcoats. addition, dry significantly faster when IR is applied, makes drying method very interesting for application.
